In support of Sourdough September, an annual event promoted by the Campaign for Real Bread, with the aim of encouraging more of us to make, buy and eat real sourdough. Learn how to create a sourdough starter, how to make and bake sourdough bread and fun uses for your starter and excess starter with super tasty bakes. The workshop will take place at The Taste Academy, Ranelagh Road, Ipswich IP2 0AQ. ///What3Words orange.lovely.flame. Instruction will include:
Creating and maintaining your own sourdough starter pre-workshop (make this at home in preparation for the class), make a levain, create the dough, bulk fermentation, building dough strength, shaping, cold proofing, how best to bake your sourdough loaf in a home kitchen
Pain au Levain, Apple Sourdough, Sourdough Pita Bread, use your excess "discard" starter to make pancakes, soft cinnamon sugared doughnuts or crispy crackers
Whether a beginner or experienced sourdough baker this workshop will provide you with my understandable method of baking this King of Bread to make a fabulous range of tangy breads and bakes.

Sourdough for Beginners and Improvers
Whether a fan of sourdough but at the beginning of the journey, or looking for improvement and support, this workshop will provide everything you need to know about my simple method of baking this King of Bread, as well as making some fabulous tangy breads and bakes. Included in the price is a cane banneton as well as dough scraper tool. This class makes a perfect gift for a lucky person!

Prior to the class:
Create and maintain your own sourdough starter and make a levain for the day, this involves 5 minutes a day for around a week please factor this in to your schedule - after all this is the fun part and unique to your home environment!
On the day:
Create a Classic Sourdough Loaf and Sunflower Seeded Rye Loaf, gain knowledge of bulk fermentation, building dough strength, shaping, cold proofing, how to bake your sourdough loaf tomorrow at home. You will be treated to a demonstration of the baking technique used in a home kitchen situation, and be lucky to eat this loaf for a simple shared vegetarian lunch!
Use your excess "discard" starter to make beautiful Sourdough Chocolate Brownies or crispy crackers

I am available for private bookings, in your own home or at a hired venue, for bespoke bread making. These classes are suitable for any level of experience, the range of breads are agreed in advance to produce a fantastic selection of breads, children should be accompanied by adults at all times!
